Bets of the month

The sports betting community for sports betting fans

This is the first newsletter for all the members of Betcave, we want to provide a monthly betting update that can show members how one another bet and what other betting patterns you can consider.

Football bets

Newcastle made a premier league record last month winning 8-0 away from home with 8 different scorers. SkyBet noted that 75 customers placed a bet on 8-0 before the match at odds of 100/1, one staking £20 (winning £2k).

Liverpool and VAR also in the news this week which bookmaker Paddy Power jumped all over, they honoured any bets that included Luis Diaz scoring or having an extra shot on target calling it a “Justice Payout”.

In-play betting on football

In-play markets in football can be really fun and lucrative, we have bet a number of times in the last 10 minutes of games on players to score and get a yellow card… this mainly happens when players take their tops off when they score. Case in point Richarlison against Liverpool last season, but it happened again with the same person against Sheffield United this month when he was booked for kicking the ball away when opposition trying to take a free kick in the dying seconds. There are a few players that fit the Richarlison mould; Garnacho, Bruno, a few others (basically anyone South American that scores in the last minute).

Racing corner

When betting the most important thing is making money, obviously, part of that is finding value. Here are 3 tips when you are picking your horses that you should always do to give you a chance of identifying value before others do.

  1. Watch previous races of each horse in a race you have a bet on (if you don’t have time to just watch the horses you think have a good chance). You can watch previous races on attheraces or racingtv on app or online.

  2. See winning OR (official rating) from the last 18 months and current OR, naturally if the current OR is lower then you know they have won from better marks previously and therefore has a chance, but going further than 18 months can get sketchy.

  3. Check track form. Quite often it is horses for courses, if a horse is in poor form it could be a number of things (ground, distance, luck in running) but when a horse goes back to a track it has run well at prior it can improve.

Places priced at 6/1, 7/1, 12/1, 9/1, 16/1, 7/1, 8/1, 20/1 5/1, 11/1, 12/1, 12/1

Points +44.2 points

As you can see from the graph below, September has really boosted the P&L from tottering around profit to +£454 for the year (based on £10 bet placed per horse). I put this down to a slight change in tactics by focussing on value more than what will win, as well at placing bets at the right time with extra places.

YTD P&L

Jordan Electrics set us off with a 40/1 winner (backed into 7/1), Annaf won the Portland at 14/1 (backed into 7/1), Koy Koy won a decent race at Wolverhampton in the Racing League at odds of 12/1 (backed into 5/1). These horses were all significantly backed, but it’s about finding the value at the right time, as a racing analyst that is what I do well as I am seeing the data and making my own prices up against the bookies, if there is a difference then I know there could be potential value there.

Member spotlight

We will focus on someone new every month and share some knowledge across the community for others to benefit from, this week we will start with Lewis Carter who had a massive win on the football. Lewi enjoys betting on football and says if he had one tip for betting it’d be “bet with your gut feeling”.

Below you can see his bet last week on the League Cup when Newcastle beat City, Arsenal beat Brentford away, Chelsea beat Brighton, Liverpool beat Leicester and Everton beat Villa away. One thing you’ll notice is the extra 12% boost from Bet365, this already adds to them being the best odds for this kind of bet so it’s well worth considering when placing your bets.
